Rambling About Recent Game News That I Care About
November 24, 2024
Woke up this morning and found out that one of my favorite fighting games is getting a modern release via Steam sometime next year. I'm not going to lie and say I was the biggest champion of the game but I liked it a lot and lamented how is was stuck on a (now delisted) PS3 release so if I wanted to play it, I'd have to put my PS4 away, then take my PS3 out of wherever it's being stored then set that up and it's a hassle to swap every time.
That being said, the reason that I'm only moderately excited and not super excited is that as much as I want to believe that this release will give it rollback, which it desperately needs as the netcode it has now is terrible even by delay standards, I don't trust this publisher to do more than a straight port with no real additions. At least it'll be on PC I guess.
Speaking of fighting game PC ports, Virtua Fighter is finally coming to PC too. It's basically Ultimate Showdown but with higher res assets, balance changes, and rollback, so that's fun even if there's no way this shit will run on my old ass laptop. PS4 and arcade (I straight up forgot this was on arcades since I only see Japan still play Final Showdown instead) are getting the balance changes too. I wonder if they'll put rollback into the PS4 version but it wouldn't be a big deal if they don't. The current netcode is actually pretty good surprisingly* but I'd like to be surprised.
* As long as you live in an area with relay servers.
In non-fighting game news, there was that Project Moon anniversary stream a few days ago and it was certainly interesting. I have... thoughts about some stuff but a lot of it is from stuff that was kind of vague, mostly from MD5 which we'll be learning more about tomorrow if not this week before it's added anyway, but I'm kind of whatever towards most of the changes. At least they're up front about wanting more money for... an anime. Boy did he really want to drive that point. I also don't really care about Arknights since I've bounced off of that game pretty fast (I don't like tower defense) but I did like the aesthetic and I do think it's something that wouldn't be too out of place, so it's whatever. That being said, if there's a Texas or Swire E.G.O (there won't), then I will gladly roll.
Voiced intervallos though, hell yes. I was really hoping they'd go back and retroactively add voice acting and if this is the way that they're going to do it, then I'm perfectly fine with it. Timekilling Time was one of my favorite events held back by the lack of voice acting so I really can't wait for that... Next season.
Also Full Stop Walpurgis is sick. I haven't used Full Stop much in my Ruina run but I thought they were cool and I'm very curious how they'd transfer them into Limbus. Especially with the game being designed around chain battles now and Ammo IDs kind of struggle with that. They also didn't have any statuses tied to them outside of Attack Power stuff. It would be cool if they didn't have a status or maybe made Ammo teams a thing? But chances are they just slap a status on them since that's where teambuilding is and I guess that's fine.
I can't think about what else there is to talk about. Actually, I don't remember most of what there was news-wise lately. I've been kind of out of it lately while trying to look into some other things. I guess ATLYSS came out on Steam Early Access. I'll probably get that at some point. The Blue Revolver Double Action update also came out after only 8 years. I really want to give that game a proper go someday. I think I bought it like... not that long after it came out but never really touched it. Well, back to trying to learn certain things.
