The LCB Regular Check-Up Experience

February 01, 2025

This post contains spoilers for the story of LCB Regular Check-Up.

The story continues. Time for the first intervallo post-Canto VII. I've been excited to see what happens next. But before that:

The Rolls

I did roll on the banner. I wanted the Ryoshu E.G.O. I would've been fine with just Faust if I saw her before but ideally, I wouldn't want that. I also lowered the output resolution to 480p this time after the issue I had last time.

Fortunately, I did get the E.G.O in 40 rolls. Nothing else of note unfortuntely but oh well. I was planning on trading for Faust when she became available anyway so not a big deal if I didn't get her here.

...Which happened as I had this drafted.

But at least Burn is looking alright. I guess. I don't really like how LCE Faust is designed in the context of how Burn is right now but I guess I just have to deal with it.

The Story

I honestly wasn't sure what to expect going into the event but it was a more more of a fun read than I thought it would be. I didn't think it would be so lighthearted in the end but I think that plus everyone getting a bit of screentime made it very enjoyable. It helps that it actually made me laugh a few times for once, which is rare. I think the only other time that happened was Timekilling Time.

It does introduce a lot of questions for the lore/overarching plot though. Like who is this upstart company that LC is helping to overthrow the currently declining W Corp (picked a hell of a time to change my theme to W Corp huh?) Are they purposely shitting on Gregor for the hell of it or were they foreshadowing something the entire time with all of his lines? Is Kim going to be relevant again in the future now that he's recovered? Stuff like that.

I was kind of hoping that we'd get to see the other departments of LC since we finally got to visit their headquarters. I'm not disappointed with just seeing the new LCE branch. Especially since it opens the doors for LCE E.G.O IDs in the future. I would actually be hyped if there was a Contempt, Awe or Blind Obsession ID at some point. Just a little sad that we didn't get to at least see the LCCB again or something. It's been a while.

I feel like the dungeon was tacked on for the sake of having a boss this time since it didn't feel like it had much space for one. At least it gives some more stuff for Hohenheim, who I don't have any strong feelings towards. But I liked having another character from one of the L Corp branches since... Canto I. And getting battle remixes for the Lobotomy Corporation Neutral thene is neat.

I also wish it didn't end so abruptly. I'm used to there being some kind of actual epilogue that just going "so we left LCE" and stopping there just feels off. I almost thought there was another cutscene that I didn't see or something. Maybe there's a reason for that. I don't know. I won't know until the next intervallo.

The Post-Story

Speaking of next intervallo, I've spent so long procrastinating on this that they already announced the Yield My Flesh to Claim Their Bones rerun happening next week... This soon feels like a little much but at least I cleared the initial run's shop so it'll just be Heathcliff and the refreshed stuff. I want to roll for Ishmael but I rolled on the last two banners... I think I should exercise restraint and shard her down the line. But we'll see.
